On a beautiful evening (rare this summer) club members visited the Bird Park for a tour by Ranger Catherine. The main attraction is always the Takahe and this time the chance to meet a young chick. The Takahe had been thought extinct until rediscovered in 1948 by Invercargill’s Dr Orbell in the Murchison Mountains. Close to one third or 130  of the NZ Takahe population are resident here. We also had the pleasure of meeting a Morepork Owl, Green Parakeet and Kaka. Catherine also highlighted a number of projects that Rotary might like to consider undertaking.
