New Year's News from Jane
Welcome to the July Club Bulletin.
So, I’m off to a busy start; lots to read in this Edition, so it’s time to share information and give you all something to read on these long winter nights in front of the fire!!

NEW COMMITTEE LIST FOR THIS YEAR
Please note the new list at the bottom of the Bulletin.  Committees will have the opportunity to meet and catch on their planning every month with 5 Thursdays, so 29 Aug, 31 Oct, 30 Jan and 30 April.   Note these dates in your diaries so we can have full attendance on these dates, do some planning and arrange to do something fun in the process!
DUTIES INFORMATION
To refresh and remind you all about what to do if you are on a Duty each Thursday, please see the attachment; find a copy on the Rotary Stand at the Club and help yourself to a hard copy from the Stand as well.
The Duties roster is what makes the Club meetings work each Thursday and allows all members to fairly contribute.
  • Duty Roster put out each month, so if you know in advance you will be away, make sure you advise the Treasurer and Club Bulletin Editor well in advance so they can plan duties without you
  • Once Duty Roster set it is your responsibility to find a replacement AND tell Treasurer abandsbballinger@outlook.co.nz and President janetaupo@gmail.com so we know and change info before the Thurs meeting.
PRESIDENTS PROJECT 2019/20
This year I have decided that whatever we do as a Presidents Project, will be led by me but decided by YOU!
If you have an idea, no matter how big or small – let me know.
We only have a year to do this so I need to have all your ideas back to me by 31 August so we can then all discuss as a Club which idea we want to go with so that by early October, the Project is underway with the support of all members.
It does not have to be based in our Community, it can be anything, anywhere as long as its related to Rotary.  An International Grant is definitely a strong option in my mind so we can then make good use of all the money we give to Rotary Foundation each year and I will be getting a Rotary expert to come up and tell us more about that in the near future.  But it could be both – an International Grant AND a local community project – just help me come up with ideas and I’ll then do what I can to make it happen.  So, get your thinking caps on and let me know – you all collectively have so much more information on our community than just me!  Email me on janetaupo@gmail.com or call me on 02102400344 to discuss further.

ROTARY PRESIDENTIAL CITATION 2019 2020
Each year there is a new Rotary International President – and each year they give us aims and goals to work towards during the year.  The Rotary Citation, as it’s referred to, are the minimum goals Clubs are asked to achieve each year.
All Clubs are different; every Club does things differently but the Citation is the one thing we are asked to align our activities to each year.
There are 2 levels to the Citation:  The Rotary Citation and by achieving just a bit more, there is the Rotary Citation with Presidential Distinction.  I, personally, don’t like the words Presidential Distinction, as it’s not about me as President; it’s about what the whole club can achieve and be recognized for.
But anyway, have a read and you’ll all see what it is I will be aiming for our Club to achieve over the next 12 months.

FIORDLAND ROTARY CLUB STRATEGIC PLAN
Did you know we have our own Strategic Plan?  Did you know it needs updating each year?  When was the last time you saw a copy?
I hope to do some work on updating this years Strategic Plan in the next couple of months, which will then be distributed to all Members.  We have a lot of talent and skill in the Club so if you have comment on the structure and content of this document when I send it out, then I will welcome your input.
Rotary International have just launched their new Strategic Plan for 2019 so we need to ensure our Club Plan aligns to the main aims and goals of Rotary International, as well as set some goals of our own.

OPERATIONS MANUAL FOR OUR CLUB
Every year we loose members who have so much knowledge about our Club and each year as a New President commences their term, having some documentation to refer to will definitely assist them to get started.  My intention is to put together an Operations Manual – just for our Club.
And I have already started it!  First item – How to Plan the Changeover Event.
All the information I gather during the year and how I do it will be recorded in this Manual and kept on a USB stick that I have bought, just for Club information

BIRDS OF A FEATHER CONSERVATION BALL – REAL JOURNEYS
The date is set for Saturday 17th August and will be the 5th annual Birds of a Feather Conservation ball in conjunction with the Department of Conservation.  Once again there was a successful response from the ‘save the date’ sent earlier in the year, however there are a couple of tables left for purchase if we would like to attend this year’s event!
Last year the event raised $85,253.00 from ticket sales and the auction on the night, all proceeds went to the Cooper Island restoration project and raised crucial funds for this extensive undertaking!

This year 100% of ticket sales will go to the Cardrona Kārearea Conservation Project.
The kārearea is New Zealand’s only native falcon species, found only in Aotearoa, and is a taonga (treasure) within our environment. The species is our most threatened bird of prey, with predation by introduced mammalian predators, loss of habitat and wide-ranging human impact all having an adverse effect. The totemic presence of kārearea in the Maunga of Te Waipounamu (mountains of the South Island) is of vital importance to our ecological, cultural and societal health.
Extensive control work of exotic predators, along with habitat restoration will enable Real Journeys to not only conserve this population but will also support the conservation of kārearea throughout the wider Southern Alps.
Tickets to this year’s Birds of a Feather Conservation Ball are $295 per person, again all proceeds go to this year’s cause.  Tables are sold as tables of ten.
Tickets will include:
  • Cruise across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak High Country Farm on the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw, with delicious canapes designed by our Executive Chef.
  • Beverages for the duration of the evening
  • Three-course gourmet dinner created by Executive Chef Mauro Battaglia at the Colonel's Homestead Restaurant
  • Live entertainment
  • Live and silent auction
  • Travel back to Steamer Wharf on exclusive midnight steamship cruise with live entertainment.
Let Jane know if you think we could get a table together for this grand event – but we will need to confirm very soon.
