Shave for Sharon
MJ wanted to do something to honour her friend Sharon Harris.  Sharon was the first female member of the Fiordland Rotary Club, joining on 1st November 1995.  She worked in Te Anau for THC and was known for her service delivery, staff training and HR skills.  She re-trained to be a teacher but was sadly diagnosed with throat cancer earlier this year.
This is where MJ's idea came to shave off her hair and on Thursday night in the company of Emily, her daughter, friends and Rotarians, everyone clubbed together to help.  Her efforts raised just over $2600 in aid of the Cancer Society, all watched live on Facebook by Sharon. Well done MJ, we are all proud of you.

Christmas Party
The Christmas Party this year will be just that, a fun night out where you are welcome to bring partners and friends.  Instead of Auntie Alice presents, the Directors decided we would collate non-perishable items or presents and give them to Women's Refuge.  Sarah spoke with Cathy from the Refuge recently and she advised that if any children's presents are donated that they be unwrapped so that they could make sure that each child in a family received something of equal value.  The other thing she mentioned that they would like was presents for Mum - a small gift that a child could choose  from a selection and wrap up themselves so Mum also received something on Christmas Day.

The price for the night is $35 per person with drinks from 6 pm and the meal at 7 pm.  Please advise the Club by Tuesday if you are bringing your partner or not attending.  If you can't attend but would still like to donate to the Refuge then contact Sarah or Doug to arrange.
Likely Lads
Last week's chip van outing at the Kepler Challenge raised approximately $1900 plus an odd foreign coin. Here's another photo of people in pinnys...

Recent Donations & Trade Grant Award
Our District Governor sent out a challenge recently when the District made a $2000 donation to the Kaikoura earthquake appeal. She invited all the clubs to make their own donation so the directors agreed to donate $1000 and challenge other clubs to better it.  Personal donations can also be made at givealittle.co.nz/cause/earthquake

Additional donations have also been made to Fiordland College to assist with the Get to Go programme - $100 per student.  Finally, the Trade Grant this year went to Jack Thompson who is going to study engineering at SIT.
