RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Award
We need your help to find applicants ...
Can you think of someone in our community who deserves the opportunity to grow through this programme?

We need you to help Doug to find some eligible candidates so please talk to Doug if you know of someone we should approach.

The programme this year will be held in Queenstown from 9-14 February - the cost to our Club to send someone along will be $900 but this is something we do every year and is a fantastic opportunity.

Presidents Update
Spring is definitely in air - at long last! I'm already through the first quarter of my term as President and very excited after last week's Committee night that we have so many ideas for the coming year.

This month I want to catch up with the newer members, make sure they are settling in; getting all our information and ensure they are being included in our Fiordland Family!

We have some great speakers for the month thanks to the new Speaker Seekers - they are doing a fantastic job and already have most of this year's speakers all lined upsmiley Well done team!

So I have plenty of ideas to follow up from the Committee night so September is looking to be a busy month.

This month will be Steptember for me!  Time to get out of hibernation and back into the fresh air and sunshine - inbetween the last of the winter blasts of course, its Spring!!

Committee Night Success
First Committee Night for 2019/20
31 Members came along to the meeting on Thursday and there was some great discussion and planning done for the year ahead.  Jane gave a powerpoint presentation on the Rotary Citation, something she sees as the minimum goals we should aim for this year and then separated out the goals into each of our committee areas.  After the presentation, the committees then spend 20 mins or so discussing ideas and then briefly reported back to the group.

Some of these ideas include:
  • Advertising RYLA so we can get applications in soon from the Community
  • Creating a New Member brochure to give out to prospective members
  • Developing an environmental project with the schools, similar to the very successful Kepler for Kids project
  • Lots of ideas from the PR team on how to publicise our profile on social media, our website etc
  • Produce Rotary Stories from our Club - put on our Website, You Tube etc
  • Lots of talk about Rotary Fun Days - how to attract the public to an event; showcase what we do and attract new members
  • Work with our local schools - find out their projects and see how Rotary can help - our Children are our Future!
  • Ideas for working with other community groups
So lots of discussion and if you weren't there, please catch up with your Director and find out what your group has planned for the year and how you can contribute.

It was a very successful session; coming up with the ideas is a fantastic start and there were lots of great ideas - its going to be a busy, fun year!

Another session will be held at the end of October.

If you need any support, please talk to Jane - she is very keen to make things happen!!

Hand Up Project for Womens Refuge
Successful joint project with Invercargill North Club
Connections are everything this year and certainly my new connection with Sharon at Invercargill North has bought about this very successful joint project.  In just a short 10 days we have collected a mountain of goodies for the Womens Refuge as the pictures show.  Well done not just to our Club, but to the local community for supporting such a worthy cause.

Awesome Auction Idea!
How we can make this years Auction even better!
A fantastic idea was given to me on Thursday - lets invite other local Rotary Clubs from Invercargill etc to our Auction in November.  Lets make it a weekend; host them in our homes; invite them along to our Auction; share a BBQ at our new site at Steamers Beach and make it a social weekend without too much fuss!

If you are interested in offering to host a couple or more if you have the room, then watch out for more news on creating a fun weekend where we can bring some more money in from around the region as well as CONNECT with our local clubs.

We currently have Thurs 14 Nov scheduled for the Auction, but lets look at doing this on Friday 15 November.

Lets talk more at this weeks meeting.

President Jane
