Cycle Trail Opening

As many will already know, there was a great turn out to the opening of the Trails Trust and they have received much positive feedback about the opening ceremony and the trail itself.  Anecdotally the trail is already well used and people are delighted by it.

Lorimer productions, who recently spoke to us at the Club, made a video that captured the opening day well and showcases the trail in a great light - quite literally. Take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNFpy7BuEdM&sns=fb .

The Trust is now firmly focused on constructing the next 9 km of trail from Queens Reach to Balloon loop this summer.  They should be able to achieve this if they are successful with funding applications - the main one being to the Lottery Grants Board.

The Trust has acknowledged its appreciation of the support that Rotary and others have given to this project.

Beautifying our Town
Shayne Mercer recently updated members on what his Service Projects team has achieved so far with the Town Centre Project.
He encouraged the club members to give it some thought into what they would like to see put in the area situated outside H & J Smith's shop. some ideas that have already been discussed with Nick Lewis from SDC and Ann Carran from the Te Anau Community Board Ideas include  a seated area, a vertical bike stand, drinking fountain, wishing well and Rotary information boards. Shayne applied for a District Grant for the project and the Club has already been granted $2000.00.  This project is in keeping with an overall plan by the Te Anau Community Board to enhance and beautify the lakefront and ensure our town remains attractive and welcoming for all its visitors, whether local or international.
