Membership

As another Rotary year concludes, it is time to report to Rotary International on our membership status.  So as at 1 July 2019 we need to confirm our memberships as we will soon be invoiced for all members currently ACTIVE as at 1 July.

If you have any queries regarding your membership, please contact Alan asap at abandsballinger@outlook.co.nz

Directors Update
Update on our latest Directors meeting held 4 June 2019.

The Club Directors met on Tuesday 4 June and here is a bullet point update on our discussions:

·        Financials – we are currently in a very health financial position but this does reflect that our major income from the phone book needs to carry us through for the next 12-18 months until the next phone book is put out.

·        Funding Requests – just one this month from Dyani Shepherd-Oates – to assist with travel to Oceania Champs in Townsville.  We have agreed to assist with $250.

·        Corporate Dinner - Moggy has produced some really nice Fiordland Rotary Club Thank You cards that will be sent out in recognition of all the support received.  She will also get some blank cards printed for general use as required.

·        Membership – Craig actively working on this with another member currently under consideration.

·        Club Bulletin – Robynne Peacock will now produce our monthly Club Bulletin so here is a BIG reminder to everyone:

o   ALL absences from meetings need to be sent to:

§  The Club - office@teanauclub.org.nz

§  Alan Ballinger, Treasurer - abandsballinger@outlook.co.nz

§  Robynne Peacock, Bulletin Editor - robynnepeacock@xtra.co.nz

Robynne will then work out the monthly Duties list for publication allowing for absences such as holidays, and once published, any changes need to be organized by the person concerned ie finding a replacement and that information then needs to be emailed to Alan and Robynne for information, AND The President (so she doesn’t panic on the night when members on Duty don’t turn up!!)

PLEASE, PLEASE remember to send your apologies in – it makes life so much easier when those volunteering their time to run our Rotary Club are aware of Members absence. It will not only save you $20, but it really helps manage the Duties roster better, organize Club meetings and cater for food when we know who will or won’t be turning up each week.

·        Roadside Project – Marie has been communicating with Council over the on going issue of responsibility for this project initiated by Rotary nearly 10 years ago but has still not managed to secure an agreeable outcome.  The last effort will be a letter to Transit reinterating the issues already sent to Council which will be sent this week and we can but wait for their reply.

·        Rotary Sign at the Events Centre – Craig is working on an update to the Rotary sign for the Centre which will hopefully be installed over the next couple of months.

·        Presidents Special Project – BBQ by the Yacht Club – Marie reported that together with Don, this project should visually start to take shape very soon.  Its been a little bogged down in detail so far but aiming to be in place for spring and the start of the next BBQ season!

May 16th – Ron Taylor came up from Invercargill to report on the Presidents Cycle Race held in February this year.  24 Feb 2018 raised $17,000 for men’s health; $41,000 raised in Feb 2019 for Hospice Southland so the big push is to reach $50,000 Feb 2020.  Hospice will again be the charity for next Feb and the race will be rebranded as “Rotary and Hospice Cycle Challenge”.  Get training everyone; lets plan a strong team effort from Fiordland!!

May 23rd – Remaya Campbell, Rotary Peace Student.  Jane organised Remaya after hearing how inspirational she was from fellow PE in Oamaru.  Remeya, currently studying her Masters in Duedin, came and stayed with Jane for 3 days allowing her time to visit both Milford and Doubtful Sound as well as treating us to a very insightful look at her studies and thoughts regarding her plans for including peace in all aspects of her life to come.

May 30th – Merv Halliday’s Aviation Stories.  Under the guise of getting Merv along to present him with a Paul Harris Fellow Award, Merv gave a very interesting talk on just some of his stories around planes that have been a big part of his life.

June 6th – Forest Wilson, Fiordland College Student report from his visit to the Aotearoa Youth Delegation Conference in Auckland.  As a recipient of Rotary funding, Forest came along to tell us about his experiences in Auckland and to thank the Club for allowing him to attend the event.  Sounds like it really opened his eyes to world issues – as well as being a proud Southland representative!
