Assistant District Governor
We are excited to learn and congratulate our Craig McMurtrie on his appointment as Assistant District Governor for the ensuing year.
It has been a number of years since we had an Assistant District Governor and it is great for the Rotary Club of Fiordland to have someone holding a position at the District level.
Craig will be holding the title of Assistant District Governor - Rural Southland. This includes the Rotary Clubs of Gore, Riverton, Winton and Fiordland.
Craig is also our President Elect and can advise our club that his first responsibility is to President then Assistant Governor during his Presidential year.

Corporate Dinner
This is our second major fundraiser of the year and all proceeds will be going towards a new Community Shuttle.
This year our Corporate Dinner night will be held on 19th November.
The price will be $44pp which includes a beautiful 3 course meal. We welcome all Rotarians, Partners and friends as this well be a fantastic event!
We are also very lucky to have  Perilyn  (Peri) Drysdale MBE, as our guest speaker. Peri is very well known in the New Zealand Fashion Industry and will have so very interesting and inspirational stories for us all.
Peri is a New Zealand entrepreneur and business owner. She is the founder and CEO of the fashion companies "Snowy Peak" and "Untouched World", which produce ecologically sustainable clothing, and the founder of the Untouched World Foundation, which runs programmes in sustainable leadership. She was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame last year:
We really want everyone to support the Community Shuttle funding so they can purchase an appropriate vehicle for Community use.
Please bring your friends and remember to book in the usual way.

She has gone from growing up on a sheep farm in Canterbury’s Rakaia Gorge, to nursing, to raising a family, to being one of the most respected and influential names in sustainable fashion.

Bike Trail Weekend
Yet another dissapointing cancellation, .
I am sorry but due to the uncertainity of Covid for the next few weeks/months, and with some members pulling out, the trip to Dunstan cycle trail has been cancelled for Feburary 25- 27th.
All group related aspects to the trip have been cancelled, however if you have booked anything personally you will need to cancel this yourself.
Hopefully we can re visit this adventure, later this year when things settle down.

Loyd setting himself up nicely at rotary!
Our Annual Auction was once again a huge success.
Special thanks to member Gareth Davis whom was our Auctioneer for the night and managed to wring out $10,015 from everybody’s pockets.
$2,000 has been committed to the Manapouri Pool Committee for improvements to the pool and the balance will be used predominately to meet the Club's commitment to the Rotary Foundation and Polio Campaign,  also to assist Club projects and Activities in General.
2021        $10,015 on the night compares with;
2020        $10,500
2019        $12,000
2018        $11,000
2017        $9,000

Wharf Project
Mark confirmed earlier this year that his Presidential project was to do some maintenance work on the Te Anau Yacht Club Wharf.  He has been working with Mitre 10 to secure materials and because we met criteria,

We have had confirmation that our application for a grant was successful which means we will be allocated $1125 - half of the cost of the project - which is the maximum 50% of a project the District Grant will allocate.
Mark and the Services Projects team are making plans for this work as soon as the weather allows.

We need RYLA Nominations from Members

It is time for us to nominate candidates for the next RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) which will be held in Queenstown 6-11 February 2022.

There is a lot involved in the selection process so we need to get on with this so what we need is your input.

IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE AGED 18-25 WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM THIS LEADERSHIP COURSE - Please contact Lynley Jones, our Youth Director, at lynleyphil@gmail.com or phone 027 848 9524.

We normally sponsor at least one candidate but if we have a couple of very good applications, we will review our funding accordingly and see if we can make 2 work.

This is such a great course for young leaders, and we know we have some good potential here in Te Anau so put your thinking caps on, discuss this with any potential candidates and contact Lynley.

Rotary 2022/23
Do you know where the money raised at Rotary ends up? Do you know what goes in behind the scenes? Craig is looking for people to give back to Rotary by giving one of our Director roles a go or if approached by Craig please consider giving something a go. This is a great way to find the answer to these questions and others. If interested please contact Craig McMurtrie and make a difference. A reminder that the Rotary Club of Fiordland is a service club. The club helps us as Rotarians as we provide service. Rotary helps us with organisation, personal development and public speaking to name a few.
