Presidents Report #3

 

Another month down and despite some moments of chaos things are
improving.
The club advised us that we would no longer be ordering our meal from
the menu and that we would be reverting to buffet meals with the

promise that the meals would be superior to and more varied to what we
had in the past ,the meals will still be $25.00 and we still pay at the bar.
We have decided to add the door duty back to our roster and although
you won’t have to be dealing with people paying for their meals it is still
appropriate to have someone at the door to greet guests & visitors and
record attendance.

 

Thanks to those who helped at the working bee at Rays and although
the numbers that turned up was less than expected a lot was achieved ,
there are still a few things needing attention when the weather permits.
Ray and Helen are very grateful for the work that has been done.

As mentioned previously Peter Kirker is arranging a Men’s health event
for Blue September which due to circumstances will now be in
November we have agreed to be involved in this in some way.

The Polio awareness fundraising movie is still to be arranged, despite
only a handful of members replying to the email re it we felt that it will be
supported and is an easy way to cover some of our commitments to
Polio.

We’ve had some great speakers this month
Following on nicely from Russell’s Pod Cast the previous week we had
Graham Dainty give us his version of the motorcycle trip through India
but with photos and video, looked like an awesome trip.
We’ve had our annual visit from our District Governor Dave McKissock &
were the 33 rd club he had visited. Dave gave a rundown of what’s
happening with Rotary locally, nationally and internationally and his
goals for Rotary during his term as DG.
We had a talk from Lisa Pillai from the Make A Wish Foundation who
was in Te Anau to help make a local child’s wish come true. Meika
Fountains wish is to hold a street party on January 31 st as a way of
thanking our community for all its support during her illness. Make a
Wish is keen to make this happen and we have offered to help them in
any way we can.

 

Allan Ballinger gave us an interesting review of his past and an
interesting past he has had delivered with snippets of humour that you
would expect from him.
We had a visit from Pete Smith President Elect of the Winton club who
was given a welcome to Fiordland Rotary by immediately being given
the mini talk spot, hope his visit hasn’t given him second thoughts.
Our latest speakers were Ken and Jill McChleary who gave us a
sobering and frank talk about Kens battle with cancer and the lengths
they went to to get a cure. They look to be winning that battle and are
also helping others to win the same battle a battle that far too many of us
are familiar with. It was great to have Ken and Jill back, it has been
suggested to them that they may wish to rejoin Rotary.

We have several guest speakers over the next month or so here’s a few
date to put in your diaries
Next week October 3 rd : Rachel Cockburn & Sarah Hanan from the
Southland Foundation
Oct 10 th is Directors meeting & Kendra may have students from
Fiordland College as our speakers.
Oct 17 th is our AGM and there will be a few maters that we need to
discuss as a club.
Nov 7 th we have Anya Forrest an author that Friends of the Library have
brought to Te Anau
Nov 14 is a combined speaker with the Lions, they have arranged for
Helen Christie to speak to them, she was a judge for the equestrian
events at the recent Olympics.
